The magnificent oceanfront views from the porch that consists of 9 rocking chairs, a hammock, and 4 outdoor beds, make this property a great choice for families looking to experience the true ambiance of Wrightsville Beach!
On the first floor are two bedrooms; one with two twins and a full bathroom and one with a full bed and a half bath. Upstairs are four bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has a full bed, two of the bedrooms each have two twin beds, and the fourth bedroom has a queen bed and two twins with a half bath. There is a full bathroom in the hall with a claw tub and shower.

"I understand an historic beach cottage set up for a casual vacation for a family is going to have certain advantages, quirks and disadvantages. Advantages: The ocean view from the large decks especially the upper deck is beautiful. Our whole group spent most of our time together here. This house has lots of communal area inside and out. Quirks: All of the door hardware is vintage (and not in good condition). I read a previous review and brought a tool kit. Everything else works fine. This home used to be a showplace and has the magazine covers in picture frames on the walls to prove it. This property has another tiny, occupied cottage on site so 2 of the 5 parking spots are dedicated to the other cottage. There are other friendly people on site living in the cottage and occasionally a stranger or two wander through property along the path on their way to or from the beach. There is one full bath (downstairs) and 3 half baths (1 down, 2 up). Disadvantages: Asthma/allergy sufferers need to find a different property. Portions of the exterior of the building are rotting and missing boards. The adjacent property to the South contains a valet parking lot for the Blockade Runner hotel. This adds a lot of noise and lights at all hours. The Hotel itself has huge spotlights on the ocean side of the building pointing on to the beach spilling brightly across the dunes of this property and several others to the North and South. Views of the moon and stars are affected. Kitchen had known ants (ant traps set up). Ant traps are merely a suggestion to ants that they may be unwelcome. Ants don't take hints and are unacceptable. I took the liberty of applying some effective insecticide in key locations in order to keep ants from spoiling the joy of food and drink preparation during our week. As the host I was not willing to wait for the property management response. "

"Interesting to once again stay in an "old fashioned" beach house. Some inconveniences but overall fun with family. Many rooms, though small, adequate kitchen, great dining on partially screened porch. "
"We come to Wrightsville every year, this house is by far our favorite location. Right on the beach and a short walk to stores. Great family house. However the house had not been dusted in years and the furniture was dirty or broken. Outside was overgrown, walkway to beach was barely visible, and there were spiders and hornet nests all over the decks. House needs alot off TLC and deep cleaning. "

"We really enjoyed this house. We had three families of four and had plenty of room. The house is not fancy but it is very charming, welcoming and well equipped. The location is fantastic. From what we could tell, it was one of the least crowded spots on the beach. At no time did we feel like we were fighting for space. Highly recommended."

"If you want new and luxurious, this is not the house for you, but if you want charm, character and history, you will love this house. Right on the water, great porches to enjoy the view. Plenty of rooms for our 4 families that shared it. My only complaint would be that some of the mattresses need to be replaced."
"We had a great time. The house is old with a certain quaintness to it. It's clean, but certainly has the feel of an older, lived in house. The amenities are adequate and I am sure when the house was built, were fine. The decks are the best part of the house, with a view of the Atlantic Ocean and rocking chairs galore. "
"We've stayed at Landis Smith 6 times as a family, and it really feels like home to us. I love the charm, the personality, the outside spaces and the location. With some investment and a little more upkeep, it would be the extraordinary place is should be. Replacing/upgrading the plumbing and toilets would help a lot. The floors need a deep cleaning. The stoves (one is broken), refrigerator,kitchen counters need to be replaced, the coffee maker and appliances could be nicer. That said, we still love it...the hammock, rockers, eating porch, outside shower and views are just wonderful."
