The wood-clad walls are painted white, as is the tongue-and-groove ceiling. An open deck adds to the living space. Enjoy a relaxing getaway at this traditional, historic cottage offering panoramic views of the ocean. Sleeps 6 (max.). 3 bedrooms (1K-1Q-2T). 1 full bath. (1) 4 passenger cart. Direct beach access. Friday/Friday. 5:30 p.m. arrival/11:30 a.m. departure.

30 year Wedding Anniversary @Captain Charlie's I

My husband and I had a picture perfect week. He is a great cook and spoiled me every day in the charming little kitchen. We spent hours watching the sunset from the porch! Would love to see the add of an outdoor shower before our next visit tho...I might want to stay there a month if you did that! We love BHI and Captain Charlie's did NOT dissapoint! XOXO

Setting on the porch

a great getaway for all that stuff that life brings. Someone needs to check into the kitchen pots and pans, this was the only disappointment in our stay.

Family Getaway

We enjoyed our stay on Bald Head Island. The Conservancy was fabulous - I strongly recommend signing up for some of their offerings. Kelly, the Educational Director, was most enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We stayed in Captain Charley 1. There was a deficiency of teaspoons, but otherwise well equipped.The rental agency was responsive when we made requests. The island is truly amazing.

A True Departure

From the moment you ferry to the island this is a vacation unlike any other. The island takes you in and transforms your vacation experience. The golf carts slow the pace of life, the scenic views, lush wildlife and pristine beaches engulf the senses. Captain Charlie’s sits at the perfect part of the island and is a portal to a simpler time. We had a magical stay and can’t wait to return!

Beautiful location

Clean,comfortable,great porch. Kitchen very poorly stocked. No Kleenex. Mini roll of toilet tissue. No dishwashing liquid .

Peaceful, Perfect Location, Unique

We loved our stay at Captain Charlie's 1! The location is ideal, with a beach walkway at the end of the porch. Always a fresh beach breeze coming through the screen storm doors. The management was very responsive and easy to communicate with. The property was clean (with the exception of a few dishes that had fingerprints, so we just ran a new load of dishes). If you're looking for posh and upscale "all new," this is not your place. If you're looking for character, location, history, peacefulness all in a neat, clean cottage, this your place. Nothing else like Captain Charlie's on the island. We look forward to returning!

Mother and Daughters Birthday Weekend at Captain Charlie's 1

They had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the house and location very much. The sunset views from Captain Charlie's 1's front porch, the ocean view and direct access to the beach made the stay one of our best ever on BHI. The house itself was what one would expect of a historic home, well updated, comfortable and clean. The kitchen was not as well equipped as we expected and the living room furniture, while basically comfortable was not as pictured on line.
Overall, we loved our stay and hope to rent Captain Charlie's 1 again.

Captain Charlie's #1 - Perfect Island Escape

We have returned to Captain Charlie's for many years. It is a wonderful way to escape the cares of the city. The location is spectacular with a full view of the ocean and as a bonus --- the only sounds you hear are waves crashing and birds chirping.

Perfect Location!

Captain Charlie’s 1 is a charming cottage located right at the ocean with breathtaking views. It’s very old, but has been renovated and updated over the years. The front porch and lower deck are perfect for relaxing and enjoying the amazing views.
